Is It Safe To Sit In Tesla While Charging?

To be honest it is said to be safe to sit inside Tesla while it is charging, as confessed by health-tech experts.

It’s mainly regarding safety that this question arises.

But actually, the research is ongoing and we may see some more clarity in the future.

It’s electromagnetic waves that we are concerned with in EVs especially while charging.

Right now, in this tech-enabled world, electromagnetic waves are just almost everywhere. But the thing is wave measures should be within limits.

And this thing is not just for Tesla, all EV manufacturers have to take this into consideration. And all EVs come with an electromagnetic wave absorption device. So electromagnetic radiation very low and safe for humans to sit inside the car while it’s charging.

And one more thing apart from the amount of electromagnetic radiation (which is anyway low in EVs, so nothing to worry), it is the time duration for which you spend with active radiation that decides whether it’s dangerous.

Here’s a video you can watch for more information.

So considering electromagnetic waves which should be very very high and you spend considerable time with it makes it not safe. And that’s not the case with EVs.

However, radiation measures will be different with different EVs and the technology of making EVs is also evolving.

But Teslas are good with this.

Watch these two videos shot by a Tesla and an IONIQ user with EMF measurement tool to see how much radiation is there at different places inside and outside of the car while charging and not charging.

So considering safety it is said to be safe and so you can take a nap while it’s charging or watch a movie or just relax inside, it doesn’t matter.

Considering my personal opinion, I consider it not dangerous as of now but the thing is external electromagnetic waves are not normal for the human body. But again considering how our intricately made bodies adjust to external things in that way it’s not dangerous, so it’s safe.

I don’t know about it’s long-term effects coz this will be an ongoing research for years and EVs also evolve by then.

I also continue to look for ongoing scientific evidence on this but the thing is scientific opinions evolve over time. So looking at current times I am not bothering it much.

Ok, now don’t sit inside taking a nap or watching movie and forget about charging! when you’re public place, like destination charger or supercharger station. Mind others waiting in a queue for charging!!! So once charging is done you should leave the spot with your Tesla for others to plug in…

With Pacemakers?

Now there’s one more question regarding this, what if anyone with a pacemaker?

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is not expert advice, I am just following what health experts have told and docs available over internet. If you fall into this scenario having implanted medical device then it requires you to consult the respective health expert or doctor to follow the right instructions.

It is again considered safe as per the European Society of Cardiology. They say that the chances of interference of electromagnetic waves with medical devices are extremely low if any medical device or pacemaker is implanted in the body.

However, it is recommended that the charging cable should not come directly over the medical device. A safe distance is to be maintained from charging cable during an active charging session as suggested by the European Society of Cardiology.
